Walks on West Cliff

Reflections on Reliability

This Walks on West Cliff post is by Scott Weinstein, PRG Quality & Reliability Specialist.

While walking the cliffs of Santa Cruz with Michael Keer and our spouses, I took a moment to reflect on a meaningful milestone: one year consulting with Product Realization Group. It’s been a rewarding journey supporting New Product Development (NPD) and New Product Introduction (NPI) efforts across industries. Helping teams embed quality and reliability from the start.

5 Key Insights from the Field:

  1. Define product requirements early
  2. Begin reliability testing as soon as prototypes are available
  3. Use FMEA and failure analysis to mitigate risk
  4. Develop product test strategies during the design phase
  5. Empower teams through training and knowledge transfer

I’ve seen firsthand how early reliability work drives long-term success from my experiences across semiconductors, robotics, automotive, and consumer tech. I also enjoy helping clients build internal test capabilities, connect with external labs, and grow their in-house expertise.

For a deeper dive, check out my recent white paper on the role of requirements in product development. I’m grateful to be part of PRG’s mission to help accelerate the development of higher quality hardware-based products and looking forward to continued collaborations.
