Walks on West Cliff

The Evolving World of AI

I recently walked with Ronald Westhauser, the former COO at Redaptive, an Energy-as-a-Service provider that funds and installs energy-saving and energy-generating equipment.

Ron shared the following insights about the evolving world of AI:

“Artificial Intelligence requires data for it to work. Most of that data today comes from the Internet and social media software. However, the physical world has over 40 billion hardware devices that generate real-time data not included in today’s public AI applications. It originates from smart cars, smart homes, industrial equipment, and other physical sensors.

There is an explosion of new hardware products with data-generating sensors. Many of those products are being designed, prototyped, and launched in the USA.

For AI to reach its full potential of making our lives easier, real-world data from new hardware and sensors, developed by engineers in the USA will be a critical part of the solution.”
